Mahogany Slade is about this boy Brad Carlton who is going to be a freshman of college. The book is mainly about his freshman year at this college in Athens, Georgia. Upon his first day there he meets this whirlwind of a girl named Janet Tomalin who changes his world. We follow him through the ups and downs of his first year and through meeting all his friends.
I thought it was charming and cute! Being a first year college student, it was funny to see his interpretation of the whole deal of freshman year. I'll admit it got a little slow at some parts. It also jumped around a bit leaving me confused at what was actually present tense and what were flashbacks. Overall, though, I thought the story was good.
It reminded me a bit of a Catcher in the Rye or Perks of Being a Wallflower kind of story and style of writing. I really enjoyed it and I definitely recommend that you go pre-order it! Or try to win a copy with the giveaway below! It's a bit long, but it's definitely worth the read and you'll fall in love with the characters as you follow them through their different stories. Janet and Heather were my favorite -- definitely.
